“The current outcomes for young people in AP and for Looked After Children are disproportionately low.  There is an urgent need to provide support to those who face critical need.  Tutor Trust and TLC: Talk, Listen, Change co-designed and delivered the Right Angle Project as part of the Alternative Provision Innovation Fund.  During the pilot, they demonstrated that by thinking differently, adopting a new approach and simultaneously addressing the causes and symptoms affecting young people, they can make a big impact.   We are delighted to be working with The Tutor Trust and their partner TLC to scale the Right Angle Project which provides a unique combination of tuition to address academic gaps and therapeutic support to scale this provision across the North of England.  We look forward to support them to scale this project beyond the pilot phase, strengthen their impact structures and develop the team around the project.”

About The Tutor Trust

Tutor Trust exists to ensure every child who needs some additional academic support can access a great tutor.  We recruit and train tutors in the core subjects of Maths, English and Science so they can then work in schools with children and young people from year 5 through to year 11.

The scaling award will aid our collaborative project ‘The Right Angle’, where we work with a local relationships charity, TLC: Talk,Listen,Change to help vulnerable children and young people. The pupils supported by ‘The Right Angle’ are either Looked After Children or attend Alternative Provision; they are the most vulnerable pupils in the school system. Our support addresses both emotional well-being and academic underachievement. This holistic approach has already shown an impact: 95% of our cohort either increased attendance or maintained good attendance, whilst our first year 11 cohort experienced an average grade improvement of between 0.7 and 1.2 in mathematics and English.

The FEA scaling award will enable us to work with more young people and develop systems and protocols that refine our impact structures. We are looking forward to collaborating with other organisations in this sphere of work. The Scaling Award will allow our team to grow and develop, enable us to have a greater impact on those that need our joint approach the most.
