“Education inequality and the attainment gap between the richest and poorest families starts early. 3-year-olds from poorer backgrounds are already one year behind their more affluent peers in their development and school readiness. Addressing this early on is critical, and that is exactly what Boromi does. Through their innovative and engaging learning library, Boromi equip parents with the skills and resources to support the crucial development of their child. We are looking forward to working with Boromi as they grow their team, scale their provision to more primary schools and early years settings in areas of greatest need, and develop their impact framework further.  We’re also excited to support Boromi to scale their new initiative ‘Keepmi’ beyond its current pilot to support families to play together at home whilst borrowing remains difficult due to COVID.

About Boromi

Boromi is a network of in-school play libraries, helping every parent to support and nurture their child’s early development through powerful, purposeful play together at home; where it matters most. We work in partnership with schools and nurseries to provide accessible play libraries of ‘Boromi boxes’ that are free for families to borrow, take home and explore together.

In response to Covid-19 we also launched our ‘Keepmi boxes’, enabling us to continue to support families in the face of school closures and limited internet access; delivering essential learning materials and packaged-up home learning support direct to family homes.

Our ambition has always been to establish a scalable and sustainable organisation that is able to reach every parent and family in need of our support and we’re really proud that through a combination of Boromi, and now Keepmi boxes, we’ve already reached over 2500 families across the UK. However, we know that as we now look to take the next step in scaling up our impact over the next two years, this must be built to be adaptable and resilient to the uncertain times that lay ahead.

As a winner of the Scaling Award, the support and guidance that we will receive from the Fair Education Alliance will be invaluable to guide us on this journey, but also being a part of an inspirational cohort with six other aligned and supportive member organisations will be enormously exciting and real source of strength and support over the coming years.
