University of Oxford joins the Fair Education Alliance

The Fair Education Alliance is delighted to announce that the University of Oxford has become the newest member of the Fair Education Alliance, a coalition made up of leading UK organisations to address the persistent educational achievement gap between young people from the poorest communities and their wealthier peers. Oxford will join the Alliance’s working group on higher education.

Dr Samina Khan, Director of Admissions and Outreach at Oxford University, said: “The impact of socio-economic disadvantage on children’s attainment is profound, and is one of the biggest barriers to university access and social mobility more generally. Oxford is delighted to be part of the Fair Educational Alliance, and to work with Government, schools and parents to help close the achievement gap and ensure that students from the least advantaged backgrounds are supported in fulfilling their potential.”

Lewis Iwu, Director of the Fair Education Alliance and former President of the Oxford University Student Union, said: “Oxford University is a global force in education so we’re delighted to welcome them into the Alliance. Together, we can ensure that we widen university access. In order to close the gap in graduation rates from university we need to bring together the key institutions involved in this area.”

The Fair Education Alliance will publish their state of the nation report tomorrow.
