About Campaign for Learning and John Beattie

John Beattie

Campaign for Learning’s internal innovation aims to enhance parental engagement through a multimedia resource designed to support parents to engage in their children’s learning and enrich the home learning environment.

I remember the Innovation Award being one of the stand-out items when I attended my first FEA summit in 2021. Since then it has been stuck in my mind as an opportunity I really wanted to pursue – I’m thrilled to have been successful!

I know the barriers low-income households and disadvantaged children and families face from first-hand experience. The neighbourhood I grew up in was one of the most deprived areas in the country. I was a young carer for my mam, and then raised by my Nan. It was my Nan’s fervent belief that learning was key that pushed me to complete a degree, work with children and young people, and gain an MBA. Her passion for my learning inspired me to spend the last 17 years developing innovative approaches to support others to realise their potential through learning and education.

I know, in my heart and in my head, that family learning is transformative for children and adults alike. This is why I’m so excited for an opportunity to bring together my personal and professional experiences and create something that will inspire and transform the lives of other families. It feels like a rare and magical gift.” - John Beattie
