Fair Education Alliance response to GCSE, BTEC and A-Level Results Days

In response to this year's GCSE, BTEC and A-level results, our CEO Gina Cicerone said:

“Congratulations to all the young people who received their GCSE, BTEC and A-level results over the past two weeks, including some members of our Youth Steering Group.

"It's great that top GCSE and A-level grades have increased slightly. But in both English and Maths GCSEs around 3 in 10 pupils still don't get a grade 4 or above, meaning they're forced into resits. And geographical inequalities continue to grow, with London pulling away: there's now an almost 11% difference in top GCSE grades between the capital and the North East.

"These regional inequalities, much like those related to income or poverty, are deeply entrenched. It's a reminder that we need to embrace wide-ranging systems change. And we need solutions that are place-based - working at a local as well as a national level - to support and empower young people from every part of the country to reach their potential.

"As we move into the second year of our Neighbourhood to National strategy, this is the work we're really excited to be building momentum on.”
