Five conferences, one Collective Voice: where to find the FEA at Party Conferences

On average, a child from a low-income household is already 10 months behind other pupils by the end of primary school, and this gap increases to nearly two years behind by GCSE. Tackling educational inequity needs to be embedded in all policies regardless of politics.

This is an important conference season for our Collective Voice. The FEA Secretariat and members will be out in full force across all five major party conferences this year.

Where to find the FEA this conference season  

Labour Party Conference – 27–30 September, Liverpool

So far we know Carers Trust, Teach First, EY Foundation, The King's Trust, Magic Breakfast, Young Enterprise, Edge Foundation, Paul Hamlyn Foundation, Voice 21 and Internet Matters will all be attending Labour Party Conference. We are really excited for a range of member events covering fascinating discussions on policy for young people, the gaps between children from low-income households and their peers, and young people not in education, employment or training.

  • The National Youth Agency (28 September, 11am–12pm) have an event focused on 'Rebuilding the Youth Sector: Lessons from Local Youth Transformation'.

  • Teach First (28 September, 10–11:15am,) look to the future with 'Transforming outcomes by 2040: how can education policy improve the life chances of persistently disadvantaged pupils?'

  • EY Foundation (28 September, 10:30am–12pm) are running 'NEET Zero: Unlocking opportunity for Britain's next generation'.

  • Young Enterprise (29 September, 4:30-5:30pm) are running the event ‘Britain’s Growth Starts Young: Why youth enterprise and financial education matter to economic growth’.

  • If you are there in the evening, do head along to Skills Builder Partnership's 'Skills for the Future' drinks reception (hosted with AQA and EPI), from 7:30–9pm.

In addition, we are hosting an FEA event - ‘Devolution that Delivers for Children and Young People’ - with Youth Steering Group member Osob joining speakers from neighbourhood to national level (28 September, 11am–12pm). RSVP to attend.

Conservative Party Conference – 4–7 October, Birmingham

In attendance will be Teach First, Carers Trust, Magic Breakfast, The King's Trust and Edge Foundation, and we are excited for the event from The King's Trust: 'Mind the Million: how do we turn the tide on youth unemployment and inactivity?' (5 October, 12:30-1:30pm).

Liberal Democrat Party Conference – 19–22 September, Brighton  

Carers Trust and Teach First will be attending, and the former have what will be a fantastic event, 'Fair futures for young carers', on 19 September, 1–2pm. Confirmed speakers include Steve Darling MP and Alison Bennett MP.

At Reform Party Conference (3–5 September, Birmingham) Carers Trust, Teach First, Edge Foundation and Magic Breakfast are attending.

And at Green Party Conference (2–4 October, Brighton), look out for Carers Trust and Teach First.
