“Closing the gap in numeracy and literacy levels between children from low-income backgrounds and their wealthier peers is central to ending educational inequality. Often parents particularly struggle to support their children with maths and English and schools are looking for new ways to engage parents effectively in their child’s education. This is where Learning with Parents comes in.  We’re excited to work with Learning with Parents to develop a scaling strategy that enables both their existing programmes, Maths with Parents and English with Parents, and their new reading logs to reach the pupils and families that need their provision the most.  Additionally, we look forward to supporting them in expanding their policy and research work and building on their leadership of the Parental Engagement Forum.

About Learning with Parents

Learning with Parents are working to ensure that every child is supported at home to fulfil their academic potential. We do this through our Maths with Parents and English with Parents programmes and by leading the Parental Engagement Policy Group.

At their heart, our programmes are very simple - we provide parents with high-quality videos, games and activities, chosen by their child’s teacher. Our real value-add lies in how we support schools to reach their disadvantaged families. We work closely with class teachers, using data and behavioural insights to drive and monitor effective parental engagement for all their children.

To complement our core parental engagement programme, we recently launched an inclusive digital reading log, which replaces schools' physical reading records. Benefits of the log include:

  • a reward scheme for families

  • audio clips of children reading

  • ability to support parents with how to read effectively with their child

  • cheaper than physical reading records

  • school by school reading stats and insights available to MATs

As well as frequent reading, schools using the log have seen a 50% increase in families’ completion of our English and Maths activities.

Over the past few years, we have supported over 20,000 families across the UK to enjoy more than 250,000 learning opportunities with their children. We are particularly pleased that pupil-premium-eligible families on our programme play almost as many activities as their peers.

Having won the Scaling Award in 2020, we are delighted to be selected to receive an additional two years of support. We are excited to work with FEA to scale our new reading log alongside our core programmes and to further develop our partnership strategy so that we can pursue collaborative projects with vision-aligned organisations.
